Valentine Shmalentine

Today is Valentine's Day. It's supposed to be the day to celebrate love. Some look forward to it while others dread it. Some dream of being swept off their feet while others feel pressured to win the approval of their loved one (or even have someone to woo for that matter). I'm not even sure where this event started whether it be of Christian or pagan origin. And yet here we are... making a fuss about this pseudo-holiday. Please don't get me wrong. I am not nor will I ever be against Valentine's Day. I just don't care much for it. I don't feel the need to celebrate it.

My husband is the most wonderful man on earth. I couldn't ask for anything more. He shows us his love everyday. He showers us with gifts for no reason. I'm very much content just spending time with him. So to actually plan on marking this day to be romanticized just seemed ridiculous. Now you may say I'm one of the lucky ones (and yes, I am) since you may have a partner who's not exactly the Doctor Of Love... well... I say, why pick this day? Why celebrate with the rest of the world? A man once told me he would send his girlfriend flowers the day before Valentine's in hopes of scoring some brownie points. He wants to look good to his girlfriend and her friends. Did it work? Perhaps. But it sounds to me like someone who wants something to brag about.

Celebrate love everyday... not just on Valentine's Day.
