I wasn't listening to Guns N Roses.

Did you ever have to remove embroidery from a shirt? That's what's keeping me sew busy lately. The embroidery itself was quite simple, nothing fancy, but in script font. I used a seam ripper and small scissors at first and it seemed like it was taking too long to remove one letter. Plus my right hand was starting to ache (not good when I'm already experiencing symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome). A quick tap on the keyboard and I watched a few vids showing how to "erase" the stitch with the special razor. Not the kind you use for giving someone a buzz cut but simply put, an embroidery razor/eraser. They're not cheap at all. So should I get one? Is the juice worth the squeeze, as my former boss would say?

Enter the x-acto knife (actually it was the Fiskars brand). Thank goodness for this wonderful little gadget. I used it to break the stitches on the back side and then used the seam ripper the pull the threads off. This $2 wonder helped, tremendously. It saved me a lil bit of time and not as painful on the hands. This "unsewing" experience sure tested my patience. Sure, it took a while for me to finish but I did it... blurry vision, hurting hands and all. I'd rather be sewing something but this is just one of those things I'll have to chalk up to experience.

i came, i saw, iPod

I happen to be one of those eligible for the iPod Nano replacement. I actually had mine for a few years now but since having an iPhone, it just started collecting dust. Come to think of it, I didn't know why I kept it. Eh. So I went through the process of signing up and waiting (and waiting) for the package for returning it. Why bother you ask? Why not? Who knows, I might actually use it. Mind you, Apple was very specific about how you're supposed to pack it. I searched online for folks who have received the replacement unit and found out that some of them actually received the exact same model (a 1st gen for a 1st gen). Then I thought, if I get the same thing maybe I can trade it in? It was probably worth $20. But when I got home from work today, this is what I got:

It turns out Apple started sending the 6th gen iPod nano as the replacement unit. I guess sometimes it pays not to be first in line. Cute, no? Will I use it? I dunno... it looks good for working out. If I can just get myself to actually work out. Hah!

Ho Ho Ho

Today is the first day of my Christmas break. One thing that I found a little difficult in this project is sewing the fur. Maybe next time I'll hand sew it. The last half of the year has been such a whirlwind that part of me wishes it to end already. I have all these fabric and patterns and projects all piling up in my little sewing corner (that hubby set up for me) but I just don't have the time. Now that my daughter's in school, we also have to make time for her school activities. But I'm looking forward to the Christmas break (and I'm glad my work still gives this to us). I have a lot of projects lined up. What's not to like? They're quick reads, a lot of them are funny, peppered with eccentric/crazy characters, and I still get to try to figure out whodunit. Some are predictable while others are twisted. A lot of them are set in small towns where everybody knows everybody and everybody's business. Every small town is charming and picturesque; too bad they're mostly fictional. I would've loved to walk down cobblestone sidewalks and browse through their little shops while running into some quirky shop owner. Yup... that would've been something.

There are so many authors to choose from and sometimes these authors write even more books using pseudonyms. I don't quite see the point in that but oh well. There are so many series to start with. Some can be stand alone and some you really need to start at the beginning. I guess it doesn't really matter to me whether it's part of a series or not. But here's what I've learned:

Small towns have secrets. That's why someone gets killed.

Everybody knows everything that goes on... or do they? Watch out for the quiet ones.

There are a lot of mysterious/mischievous/mystical/magical cats. Dogs or other pets, not so much.

A lot of times only one person in a small town would "discover" the dead body. Some gals/guys have all the luck.

There's a lot of moonlighting going on. Example, small town librarian by day, investigating friend's cousin's case by night.

Tension can lead to romance when law enforcement personnel is involved.

Since I got my Nook I found myself reading a lot more. I wanted to build my library but it's a little discouraging when the ebook is, more often than not, priced the same as the regular book. One would think that since you already paid a hefty price for the device that the electronic content would cost much less. But it's my favorite past time. I'm flying to Nashville on Sunday and I've been, shall we say, loading up on new books to read. The small town cozy is a traveler's best friend.

Date Night Top

I went to Jo Ann last Friday (didn't have time to go Momen+ *sad face*) and found patterns for $0.99 each *ginormous grin*. It was a steal!!! They normally go for $17 so you can bet your bum I was excessively giddy I could hardly contain myself. I actually told myself I'm just gonna look, but what the heck. I was going out the next night so I might as well attempt to sew a cute top instead of buying it. The pattern called for jersey fabric which I haven't tried. So here's how it started...

I found this matte jersey in eggplant. It was perfect since I don't really have a top in this color. I found that I'm struggling a bit on the neck and armhole parts (more practice on those curves) but other than that it was fairly easy to sew. I was able to finish it in time for my date :) Here's the finished product:

It looks like it's floating in mid air but it was actually hanging on a clear hanger. Looks pretty cool tho, no? I'm happy with how it turned out and this just inspired me to be a little more ambitious in my sewing adventures. Next I'm sewing a cute summer dress for my girl.

Oh my... it's July!

Lots of things planned for this month. I get this feeling it's gonna be one of those busy times that would make time fly. But first 4th of July is coming up so...

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, USA!

It's so awesome that the 4th is on a Monday, ergo, 3-day weekend :) We're still not sure how to celebrate it. A few days ago I got some sort of flyer in our mailbox saying there will be a party with (loud) band and everything here in our little cul-de-sac. It also said bring food and join the party. Well first of all, we heard that band play and honey... you'd have to pay me to sit and listen. Second, it would've been nice if they asked us if it's okay to have their little block party. Plus our neighbors (right across) like to kinda sorta block the road with big ass fireworks. The really loud and smoky kind (but very pretty). We actually get to have our own fireworks show, no need to go to the beach or the park. So, we may just end up barbecuing at home... Guam style.

Our friends the Alave's are here from Texas. Very very excited to spend time with them. Tomorrow night we're having dinner with them then on to a comedy show by Rex Navarrete. Attending a friend's wedding weekend after then Disneyland. Fun fun fun!

I don't think I'll be able to do a whole lot of sewing this month but I'll try to sneak in little projects. I have a lot of fabric piling up and I'm itchin' to do some stitchin'. They have a lot of sales this weekend so I may go to Jo Ann to check out what they have or drop by my favorite little Japanese fabric shop. Just thinking about it makes me all giddy inside.

Bittersweet Friday

Last Friday was my Uncle Tony's viewing. It was held in Milpitas-Fremont which is about a 6.5 hour drive from our house. It's been a long while (about 10 years?) since I last saw my cousins. And it was really nice spending time with them considering the circumstances. It was creepy and funny snapping pix next to my "resting" uncle but we had a great time. It was also the first time they met my girl and soon they were calling her Junior. I honestly don't see it but hey, I won't argue.

I wish we could stay longer but unfortunately, we had to drive back that very same day because Peter had to work the next morning. Mucho mucho thanks to my wonderful hubby. I did offer to drive but he did it all the way and let us snooze. Please don't do what we did; I DON'T recommend it. To me, it felt worse than jet lag. On a happier note, one of my cousins is getting married next year. It'll be like a reunion for us and we're all looking forward to it. Plus, they're only 2 hours away :)

My First Nook Case

Last Saturday I attempted to sew my very own Nook Color (thanks hubby!) case. I've been searching online for patterns but couldn't really find one that I liked. Maybe because I already had a design in my head. Thing is, sometimes what I see in my head doesn't quite translate well on paper. It took pretty much the last half of the day and a couple of trial and errors to get it together and here's what I got:

I originally thought of making it look like a clutch/wristlet but I think this will do for now. I wasn't planning on including a pocket but there it is. Here's the prototype opened up.

And here it is in action...

I didn't do any close up shots coz I don't want people to see my ugly stitches (I'm still learning y'know). I will make it better and sturdier next time. Who knows, maybe then I can even put together a pattern.

Happy Friday (the 13th)

Mother's Day weekend went by like a blur. It felt like I was everywhere. I was eating at this place and that, breakfast here, lunch there, dinner at someone's house. I was out more than I was home. I had a blast believe me and my awesome hubby and girl got me a Nook Color (which I looooooooove!). But in a way I was glad that was over and done with. What I really wanted, really really wanted... was a day doing nothing. No chores, no errands, no driving, just nothing.

I wish I can say that can happen. But I have loads of laundry waiting for me and a room that needs cleaning. Plus I planned on doing more pillows but this time with zippers (eek!). Never tried sewing zippers but there's always a first for everything. Oh a girl (mommy) can only dream.

Enjoy your weekend!

Love and Rio-mance

I don't get to watch movies as much as I'd love to. It's not bad... very colorful and the music was awesome. Of course I just had to post my favorite part. So many things going on I'm not really sure which one to post first. I guess a chronological sequence of events is proper.

Last week on my way to work a car hit my bumper coz another car hit his (get the picture?). Good thing this happened at the on-ramp so we were not going fast and the damage was very minor. But there was that hassle of having to pull over, get all the info you can get from strangers, and contacting the insurance company for your claims. Thank goodness I don't have to pay anything coz my deductible was waived.

I don't support the idea of daylight savings time but here we are... I'm still trying to find that one hour of sleep I lost over the weekend. It was madness, I say... madness!

In light of recent events, I got some special nail treatment from my girl over the weekend. Sure it wasn't the way I would've done it but it was picture perfect. My girl is turning 4 on Thursday. We promised her that we would take her to Disneyland. But since we couldn't take her on her actual birthday, we surprised her yesterday. She didn't jump up and down or shriek but she had a great time and already told me she wants to go back. It is madness trying to do them all in one day so don't do what we did. We were all knocked out when we hit the sack but I'd say it was all worth it. The fireworks were a definite must-see :)

At the end of the month I'll be two years shy of 40. Wow. Forty. The big 4-0. I have been celebrating the decades, not the years. I had a beach party on my 30th and I think I was partying with my friends on my 20th but soon it'll be the 40th. Last year I thought of having a luau but now that I think more about it, I would really like some days off. I want to enjoy my house more and maybe get my nails done again.

Valentine Shmalentine

Today is Valentine's Day. It's supposed to be the day to celebrate love. Some look forward to it while others dread it. Some dream of being swept off their feet while others feel pressured to win the approval of their loved one (or even have someone to woo for that matter). I'm not even sure where this event started whether it be of Christian or pagan origin. And yet here we are... making a fuss about this pseudo-holiday. Please don't get me wrong. I am not nor will I ever be against Valentine's Day. I just don't care much for it. I don't feel the need to celebrate it.

My husband is the most wonderful man on earth. I couldn't ask for anything more. He shows us his love everyday. He showers us with gifts for no reason. I'm very much content just spending time with him. So to actually plan on marking this day to be romanticized just seemed ridiculous. Now you may say I'm one of the lucky ones (and yes, I am) since you may have a partner who's not exactly the Doctor Of Love... well... I say, why pick this day? Why celebrate with the rest of the world? A man once told me he would send his girlfriend flowers the day before Valentine's in hopes of scoring some brownie points. He wants to look good to his girlfriend and her friends. Did it work? Perhaps. But it sounds to me like someone who wants something to brag about.

Celebrate love everyday... not just on Valentine's Day.

The (Not So) Young Adult

I've become a regular at our local library. In fact, I visit once or twice a week. Besides sewing, I also enjoy curling up with a good book. I still like the feel of it (although I'm also wishing for an iPad or a Nook Color). I like books by Tess Gerritsen and Beverly Connor, or by Victoria Laurie or Heather Webber. I used to like James Patterson and Patricia Cornwell until their stories left me saying -- Seriously?? I like following a series so I can watch characters evolve. I like being a "witness" to how their struggles gave them strength and gain wisdom. It's like watching them win a race.

I admit I haven't been sewing lately even though I still think about projects in my head and check out sewing tutorials online. But I've been reading. And I've been reading books for young adults. Yes, folks... the ones intended for ages 9-12. Blame Harry Potter and the like. These books were so wonderfully written that sometimes I think, are these really appropriate for this age group? We're talking murder and mayhem here which is something I normally see from your typical forensic thrillers intended for adults, sans the medical/technical jargon. But somehow YA books are just more... colorful... more visually appealing in my mind's eye. I enjoyed reading The Lost Hero a whole lot more than The Lost Symbol. Does that sound wrong?

I wish these kinds of books were around when I was younger. During those times my goal was to read all the Nancy Drew's. She was cool... but she was never killed twice by Voldermort.

Resolution for 2011

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone's year is starting off right. The holidays came and went like a whirlwind that I deemed it appropriate to take a few days off work to slow things down and bring things back to its normal speed. I had a great time these past weeks but there were so many things happening all at the same time: families visiting, parties to attend/host, plowing through the sea of shoppers... you know, the works. I only have one resolution for this year and that is to sew more and take a couple more sewing classes. That's all. I'm not gonna "promise" to lose weight or save more money 'cause I know myself. I love junk food and I love to shop. I'm not saying I won't eat good or I'll spend every penny I have but I'm trying to be real.

Christmas is for the kids (and kids at heart). I think our girl was happy, excited and overwhelmed all at the same time on Christmas morning when she opened all her gifts. She's into the Disney Princesses right now and there were so many Princess gifts that she just can't play with them all. Now she can't wait for her birthday because she wants to go to Disneyland and see Sleeping Beauty's castle. That's pretty much how she remembers her birth date since it's the day she will meet the Princesses.

Two days ago, hubby and I celebrated our 8th year of marriage. We took a mini vacay in Vegas and we had a blast! We went shopping and ate good food. After we got home last night we were surprised with an awesome dinner by my awesome in-laws. They truly are amazing and I'm very blessed :)

Life is good.

Christmas Greetings!

Last Saturday I was able to sew some throw pillow covers. It was the first time I used quilted fabric. I was a little scared at first coz this is fairly thick (I thought) for my machine but it was surprisingly easy. I decided to secure by hand sewing instead of adding zippers and I think it turned out really well.

Christmas is just around the corner and I still have some last minute shopping to do (yikes!). We won't be hosting this year (phew) so I won't have to do some intense cleaning, not that my place needs it. But we're still in charge of the ham, or my chef hubby is :)

Let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family the best this holiday season. I fell in love with the movie's love theme song "I See The Light" and I thought I'd share it. I've been playing it over and over partly because I love hearing Zachary Levi's part. That's right, folks... Zachary "Chuck" Levi sang this song with Mandy Moore. He CAN sing and does it really well imo. The movie itself is Disney at their best. It's different from all the Princess movies. I very much enjoyed watching and I would watch it again in a heartbeat. I would have to say one of my fave characters would be Maximus. But it's the holidays! This is like one of the greatest times to sew something, even if they're just festive throw pillow covers or an easy Santa hat. But I can't even do any of that. I've been coughing and sneezing for the past six days now and all I really want to do is lie in bed and sleep. I can't really stay home because I end up doing chores. I really don't want to go to work but it's starting to pile up and just thinking about it makes me feel even sicker. How does that go again? Damned if I do, and damned if I don't...

I really don't like taking any medication. I mean, if I know that I don't need it and I can go on without it, I will choose not to take it. But now that we have a toddler in the house, I can't afford to be sick. I've already taken several kinds of drugs for this darn cough/cold but nothing seems to work. It's simply annoying. I just hope this will go away before Christmas (the sooner the better).

The Last Month of the Year

So last month I went to Virginia and DC for a conference. And as expected the autumn foliage was breathtaking. In my last post I mentioned posting some pics so here it is. I guess you can say I'm quite lucky to be able to go to these conferences and go to places that not too many people have access to. It was exhausting, I'll tell you that... I was working 15-hour shifts. But being one of only two people organizing this event I'd say we did a pretty darn good job. It was also nice to hear from the attendees that they had a great time. Of course it really helps to be surrounded by people who are such a joy to work with.

The weather in VA/DC was beautiful. The full moon was up so I had to take this photo. After the conference I took a much needed break, which was perfect since it was Thanksgiving weekend. I got to spend a lot of time with my family and I slept in a lot. I looooooove it :)

Our Thanksgiving dinner was great. Besides the turkey, hubby made some maple sausage gravy, pommes dauphinois, and sauteed mushrooms and asparagus. We also had creamy chicken with pasta and shrimp soup with quail eggs. We were stuffed. Strangely, though, after two hours I felt like I had to eat again (but I didn't). The pumpkin pie just gave it that perfect ending. We all had fun playing Wii and fooling around with Garage Band.

I didn't shop on Black Friday. I like taking my time when I shop, and nowadays, I only shop for the kids. Besides, I like personalizing/making our gifts. It's unique and it really doesn't cost much. If I could just find the time to make them. Gosh, it's already December but still technically fall season. It's been quite cold... well, colder than the normal temps. Now would be a good time to find a fleece beanie pattern.

Not-so-sweet November

Sorry, folks... I have been missing in action lately. Not that I've been abandoning this but I'm just too busy to post. I'll be attending another conference in VA and the past few weeks have been nothing but preparing for that. Well, I don't really bring home my work but my brain hasn't had time to space out for a bit. I am a lil bit excited about my trip. Virginia is beautiful this time of year. The first time I went there I would stare at the golden foliage. All those warm shades made me want to just stare... space out... It was truly picturesque. I never really thought I would see a doe and her fawn grazin' right smack in the middle of nature coz that's just something you see on the Discovery channel.

I wish I could enjoy it more. I don't really have much free time when I travel for work. But it's nice to see old faces again, not to mention meet new ones. I hope it won't rain the whole time like last year. I'm leaving in a few days so I probably won't be posting again till after I get back. I will try to show pics of my trip.

Can't wait for the holidays.

Slack Attack

Ever feel like you're in a slump? I've been feeling like that lately. I have fabric and projects piling up and I haven't even touched it in the last week. Work drains me mentally that sometimes I can't find the energy to finish my jacket at least. Well, since there's no new episode of Bones tonight maybe I'll be able to sew a bit.

And speaking of my jacket, it's about halfway done. There were only 2 sessions for that class but I think there should've been one more since none of us finished our project. I'm working on one of the hardest parts (the collar) and it really would've helped it we had more time in that class. I did learn a couple of tricks. I just need more time.

I recently discovered this really cute Japanese fabric store a few miles from my house. So one day after work I decided to check it out even though I wasn't really sure where it is (at first). It turns out that it's a couple of stores down from a bakery that we go to. It's quite easy to miss. I walked in and was right away enamored. The staff is very friendly and they have a great selection. I really like the charming, non-commercial feel of the place. Makes me wish no one else will discover it but that's just a little too selfish. Heehee...

Happy Birthday, Jo!

Happy birthday to my awesome sis-in-law, Jo :) I made this for her last night as our present. I ain't talking 'bout no water park here. I'm talking about this weird California weather we're having. Last week, as I'm sure you've heard, we had record heat temp's -- 3-digit ones! Now, we're on day two of the downpour. Last week people flocked the malls; this week nobody wants to step out. And I'm one of them. The weekend's forecast will be in the 80s. It's a weather roller coaster and it's not a fun ride. Definitely wild and crazy weather we're having, don't you think?

So last week I went to the first session of my jacket lesson. I was ready as ready can be to start my engine... er, I mean, sewing machine. I was happy, I was giddy. I was greeted by an older lady with a cold who turns out to be our instructor. You can just imagine my smiley face turning into a questioned look. I was so ready to cut my pieces and what did we do? We sat down while she asked pop-quiz-like questions. The whole time we were there I didn't even see the machine. I didn't feel like posting about it. But I was determined to finish this. The next (and last) session will be on Saturday. I will finish that darn jacket. Photos coming soon. On a side note, I sure hope she feels better.

Pants!

Last night I went to my "Lazy Pants" sewing class. I was so excited about it I arrived early. And yes, I was the first one there. Minutes were ticking by and I began to worry that my class would be canceled or rescheduled (again). So I started walking around the store. I was so tempted to look around the fabric area or check out the little sewing nice-to-have's but decided to walk straight to the classroom. I was relieved (and got even more excited) that I'm actually going to make something I can wear.

I've never really used a pattern before. Sure we talked about it in my basic sewing class but I just read the darn thing. Didn't really use it which you all know is totally different. Picking the right pattern is already confusing enough. So I take out these pieces of tissue paper from the pattern envelope and I thought why are they using this kind of paper? Eh... After pressing the pattern pieces, we start pinning them on the fabric. At this point I was being anal about it, making sure it's all flat and not puckering. And then we cut...

The pattern comes with instructions on how to assemble the pieces. I probably could've learned this on my own. But one thing I enjoyed attending classes is the added knowledge I gained from the instructor. She gave us tips and tricks that were not indicated in the pattern. Plus... and this is a big plus... the instructor made us use the serger! I was so giddy like a kid playing with a new toy. Did you ever look at the loopy-loop seams on your store-bought shirts/pants? That's made using a serger, aka overlocking machine. It was unbelievably easy to use. Someday I will get me one of these.

I called my mom to tell her about my recent sewing adventure. I was so proud of me. But I have much to learn. My mom has been sewing for decades. She doesn't even use patterns. I want to be like that. This Saturday is the first day of my jacket lesson. Stay tuned.

Testing, testing

Just trying out posting from my phone. To celebrate, I went to Jo Ann over the weekend and signed up for two classes. Woohoo!!! I am very very very very very very very excited. The class fees were half off and I was one of the first ones to sign up. I'll learn to make a cute jacket (just in time for fall) and what they call "lazy pants." I'll learn how to follow a standardized pattern. I've made my own simple patterns but that's just it. I'm the only one who can understand it. Heehee... I've been sleeping late at night just thinking of what fabric to use. Choosing which one will be the problem. I will definitely post pics of my progress.

And speaking of September, it sure feels like the fall season has started early as I was greeted by thick fog on the way to work. The weekly forecast looks great and it'll be just perfect for the L.A. County Fair. I've never been to one but I'm seriously thinking of taking a day off to go check it out. I think it's better to go on a weekday. It's amazing to watch Old Hollywood - the people and the places. Budding stars were given new names and new backgrounds all for the sake of fame. Nowadays, if something untrue or unacceptable was said about someone/something, you'll hear a reaction right away on Twitter, Facebook, or the concerned person's blog.

I believe this has been remade by Judy Garland but I haven't seen that version. I tend to stick to the original ones mainly because it had to have been the best or it wouldn't be remade. I enjoyed watching this a lot. Sure it's not digitally remastered; you can still hear that constant hiss on the background, see how editing was not perfect, but I think these all add up to how wonderful this movie is. I really like that quote above. It was hot and humid when I was there with the occasional rain. It was a very exhausting 7 days and I am so glad to be home. Cincinnati wasn't bad but I was there to work and I had very little free time so I can't say I had a great time. Wish I had a chance to check out other places besides downtown. I was told that this city is still a growing city. So if you're ever here, a lot of places close early and don't even open on Sundays. One thing you may want to try is the chili over spaghetti. It's actually not bad but it's not something I will have everyday.

But now I'm back where the weather is beautiful and work seems like a million miles away. I think I've had enough of travelling for now so I decided to stay home and enjoy some QT with family. I'm already having fun watching the kids play hide and seek esp. since they're all cheating. I don't have any plans for the next five days. Being lazy is sounding very good right now. I also have a book that I can finish. Gosh... I can think of so many other things I can do but I just want to enjoy my much needed break. Maybe I'll just stick with being lazy today.

Here Comes The Sun

SoCal weather is now hitting the 90s. It's hot!!! I'm beginning to miss the somewhat gray overcast mornings we had a few weeks ago. Gonna be flying to Cincinnati this weekend for a conference. I just "googled" the weather there for this month and it's supposed to be hot and humid. Oh well... it'll be like my Guahan home. I also just signed up for Yelp so I hope to do some yelping and "check in" a lot of good food places :) This is going to be a week-long conference and I intend to take a week-long break afterwards so I can finally do some sewing. I can't wait to check out The Cotton Shop and get me some cotton candy. I hear they're gonna have a sale. Who doesn't like great deals?

I got a copy of Tess Gerritsen's new book, Ice Cold. I think I'm ready for my 4.5-hour flight.

Office Pet Peeve #1

Have you ever gone to your break room to get coffee only to find that there's a tablespoon of it left in the pot while it's on the warmer? This irks me! The worst part of it is it happens a lot. It doesn't take a genius to know you don't leave the pot like that.

Last Friday after lunch my co-worker smelled something burning. So when she went to the break room she saw the source of the smell, and yes, it was the black-bottomed pot. It was too hot we didn't dare put it in the sink. The person responsible came by and realized what she'd done. I guess she felt bad coz she tried to clean it. This morning I went to get my coffee and there she was, the perpetrator. Sure enough there was half a cup of coffee left in the pot. She saw me pour it down the sink and make a new pot. She asked, "Wasn't that enough?" And I said, "I don't drink from bottom of the pot and that wouldn't even make a full one." She said, "Oh you know what it is, I couldn't tell how much was left coz of how wide the metal part is." O... M... G... I can't believe I heard that. Am I really working with this person? I mean, really? Was she trying to give me an excuse for not doing what she's supposed to do?

But like I said, it's a pet peeve. I'll get over it. I already made a fresh pot and it smells so good.

Meet Me Halfway

Can you believe 2010 is halfway gone? Or is it halfway through? Half empty? Half full?... You pick.

Summer has already begun yet I look outside my office window and see fog, and it's mid-morning. The California June Gloom has crept into July and it ain't pretty. I step out expecting to feel warm from sunshine yet I shiver a little at the light breeze instead. Mother Nature has got to get her act together.

On a different note, three-day weekend is coming up! I'm hoping for some good weather (Did you hear that sun?) and good food. It's true... it was that tiny. I'm the type of person who doesn't take painkillers but this - this little itty bitty cut - it lingers. It's distracting while I type this. It's only a small one, you say? Well, that's probably what Goliath thought and we all know what happened.

Let's move on... I've been hella busy preparing for a conference that I haven't posted anything lately and it's almost the end of the month (what happened to June?). None of this boring black in the back. *sigh* You had me at "Home"

Websites on the Home screen

After you do that, you can organize them and all the other apps in Folders!

5MP cam with zoom plus HD video... come on... how can you say no to that???

Videoconferencing! I wasn't happy with this year's finalists so I didn't bother watching the show. So based on what I've been hearing it seemed like Crystal Bowersox was the "shoo in." But America voted otherwise... Here are a few of my thoughts on the finale:

Alice Cooper as the opening act??? It was a little weak. I could barely hear him sing (if you could call it that)

Crystal + Alanis Morrisette = thumbs up

Chicago is one of my all time favorites... but what happened? They sang with Lee and they were all off! The band was awesome when we saw them in concert. Was it the monitors? Was it Lee? We'll never know...

Bringing out the Idol Alumni was a nice touch.

Paula Paula Paula... what can I say? I didn't like her as a judge and I didn't like her "speech." I think she should stick to dancing/choreography/whatever it is that she does nowadays (retiring).

I think Janet Jackson stole the show. I love her and I love her new song :) Will definitely download it later.

Just watching Crystal and Lee perform last night, with no judging and just having the time of their lives, it seemed obvious that Crystal was more powerful musically and confident on stage. Overall I thought the show didn't flow smoothly, like something was missing. Oh well... time to move on.

Morning Blah

It's a Monday... that's prob'ly it. I really don't feel like doing any kind of work right now. I've already had my coffee and I still have this "morning blah" feeling that I just can't shake off. Maybe it's the thought of the three-day weekend coming up that I just want this week to be over already. Or maybe it's the thought of the Jolie-Pitts in politics. Did you hear about that? I heard on the radio this morning that one of them wants to be in the Senate. I know, I know... this is probably how the world will come to an end. I guess I'd rather have it to be one of those so I don't have to blame it on hormones.

Maybe I just need one more cup of coffee...

Hubby got our girl her own "kitchen" yesterday. It's just the plastic kind from Little Tikes but she loves it. She's been cooking and making pizza, and then she started using the real food to put in her toy microwave. Makes me wanna sew her a cute chef's outfit. Which reminds me... I still haven't had the chance to get my fabric. Hope they have good sales this weekend.

Playing Hookie

Mother's Day was so great that I decided to "extend" it for one more day. I used one of my personal days to spend more time with my family. It's a beautiful Monday and the weather couldn't be better. We drove down to Carlsbad to pick strawberries :) Those berries were sweet! We highly recommend it. I've been juggling 3 ideas in my brain lately but I've been leaning more towards one of them mainly because it's practical (not to mention easy) and it makes an awesome gift since Mother's Day is coming up. I'm talking, of course, about the reusable grocery bag with a twist. A twist, you say? Yup... sewing this bag will be easy but to add a special touch I've decided to add something to it that will make it easy to fold and store. I saw a similar idea online but I'd like to make my project just a lil different. I found out about a fabric store in Redondo Beach and I want to go check it out. They seem to have a wider variety compared to the one I've been going to. Maybe I can manage some free time this weekend and buy me some organic cotton.

btw... I wanna give them that pet hair roll thingie). Then later on she said, "You put walnuts? You're supposed to put pecans. Pecans!!!" Oooooohkay? I didn't know she's allergic to them and I'm sorry but she could've picked them out or JUST NOT EAT IT. I've always wanted to get one in off-white/bone and I found one at a Coach boutique store. Now, mind you... I was just browsing, just checking on what's new and there it was... beautiful embroidery, lots of storage space (I like pockets) and in the color that I was looking for. So the employee came up to me and said, "You have good taste. That's a limited edition and we just got that today." Yeah-huh!! See, I wanted to buy myself a birthday gift but since I had to have my car serviced I decided not to add any more charges. But I had to pull myself away even though I was really DYIN' to get it. So we walked over to Macy's to look at their shoes, and what's next to the shoe department?? The fine jewelry section. And yes, they have my birthstone. And yes, I found a beautiful ring. I am so torn. I want them both. *ugh

Very happy with the way my new project is turning out. I'm gonna try something new - grommets! Never used one before so this should be fun. Apparently there are several kinds: industrial, hammer type, snap-on, and plier kind for the small ones. Need to check the craft store later.

Mommy Moment

My girl and I were playing last night and here's a snippet of the conversation:

ZM: "Mommy, you the baby ok and I'm the mama."
Me: "Ok... I was already finished getting ready for work, saying my goodbyes, when she started crying and said, "Mommy, don't go to work." Ugh... I was so torn. I was very tempted to stay but I have so much to do at work. Tomorrow is her birthday and I'm already taking the day off. Hubby said she's got the sniffles and she feels a bit warm. I hope she's not sick so she can enjoy her birthday. We're throwing her a Hello Kitty party on Saturday. With this beautiful weather we're having, we may just have it in the backyard with the kiddie pool. Exciting!

I haven't gone to pick my fabric! Yikes... it's just been crazy around here lately. But I haven't forgotten. I'm still very determined to do it.

I want me some Cookie

Boy... I'm trying to post whenever I can but lots of unexpected things have been popping up lately. Tomorrow is road trip day; we're going to San Diego to see my friend Cookie. I'm excited to see her again since we hardly get together.

"Cats" was great! Peter and I both agree that to be a cast on this show, one needs to have acrobatic skills in addition to being a great singer. Plotwise, I like Les Mis more but I guess I shouldn't compare. We still had a great time. I really like the song about Macavity.

The next show we'll watch is "Phantom." Can't stop smiling!

Merry Month of March

March is getting to be quite a busy one for me but I am sew looking forward to it. I've decided to tackle one project at a time instead of trying to do several at once. I'm in no hurry anyway. But besides being my birth month, I love March because:

Spring! Clear skies, beautiful weather and flowers in bloom. Who could resist? fyi...the first day of spring will be on the 20th.

My baby will turn 3! She is growing up real fast. Now I can have conversations with her. It's definitely a fun age. I just hope she doesn't grow up too fast.

Hubby & I will watch Cats!!! Need I say more?

I'm making a chef's apron. I don't like how there's a strap that goes around your neck so I'm sewing one that ties criss-cross on the back. I'm excited :) I'll make sure to share its progress in my PiP page.

I still don't know what I want for my birthday. But I do know I'm taking off on that day to just relax and enjoy with my family.

Sew many projects... sew little time

Sewing is a very rewarding passion. If you have the time for it. Sometimes I go window shopping and see cute outfits and tell myself, "I can learn how to do this." Now that I have my own sewing machine, I should just go for it, right? Nah... See, like a lot of moms out there, I have a full time job. I come home and I'm a full time mommy. Sometimes I don't even have time to read a page. But I really really want to do this. I have all these ideas in my head that I want to try. I know I'll go through a whole lot of trials and errors but I'm confident that I'll get there.
